What is Package Factory?

Package Factory is a system that gathers Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) from the web and robotically attempts to port it to OpenSolaris. Successfully built packages are submitted to Source Juicer. For more details please visit the Package Factory at OpenSolaris.org website or email us here.

What is the current status?

As of 2010/02/09 20:20, Package Factory has collected 2779411 FOSS archives. It is currently attempting to port 330498 most recent versions of these archives. Everything else is considered obsolete (please tell us if we're wrong).

Also as of the above mentioned date, Package Factory has successfully built 37818 packages of which 1060 have been submitted to Source Juicer and 3427 are ready to be submitted.

We need your help to

• Vote on projects that we have built and now should be sent to Source Juicer.
• Vote on projects that needs to be ported sooner.
• Point us to software we are missing by providing URLs of potential FOSS sites and tarballs.
• Pick any of our spec files, clean it up and deliver it to Source Juicer yourself.

How will we use your input?

We will use your anonymous votes and input to prioritize our submissions to Source Juicer, to raise the priority of items in the porting queue, to add new items to be ported at a high priority.

If you pick and submit any of our spec files to Source Juicer before we do, we will make sure not to submit the same thing twice.
